the kingdom of heaven

commonality at the heart

I love family and that which draws us together,
my mother and her brother were very close at the heart,
though as distant as can be in
how the heart tells you to be in your politics,
they somehow knew a truth that can elude us these days,
that  we should find commonality where we can
and not disparage the other with our preaching,
to live one’s own truth,
while still being open to others finding their own way,
what I most cannot abide is a self-centeredness
that feels “mine” to be better than “thine,”

that is not the “kingdom of heaven” that calls to us.
