The Elk and Us
the elk draws us, and a slew of others,
to their remote valley in the Smokies, Cataloochee,
a place where they just are,
here where they are a piece of the world we lost
when we lost ourselves in ourselves,
when we crowded out animals and plants
we forgot our souls needed.
