whimsy is not truth

Poetic License

poetic license?

what a ridiculous term,
at least in how it’s used
as a “get out of jail” card
if you want to stretch the truth
away from the actual
and toward what you want,

I like it as permission to get more real
than obsession with excessive detail might allow,

“poetic license” should not allow
whimsy to pretend to truth.
