the unique and the universal, combine

We believe in you . . .

there is a profound truth

folks at Carolina Friends School work to deal with:

all of us journey toward the best we can be

and toward the best we can help others to be,

plus that each journey is unique in its own path,

despite the universality of the odyssey that calls to us,

as I savored the senior projects of this year,

the unique and the universal shouted at me to notice them,

each senior recognizing where they are now,

both as culmination of major steps in their journey

and as a doorway into tomorrows

that only hint of what they can be,

I am impressed with the fullness of their self-knowledge,

and with the openness of their realizing that truth has revealed itself

but will also continue to reveal itself,

if they are open to noticing and acting upon

the better paths that are out there calling.
